Discarded: Reflections of a Pandemic

Apr 26, 2022

Pleased to share new work and my contribution to Discarded: Reflections on a Pandemic edited by Saskia van Kampen. This project presents 686 images of discarded PPE, 23 participant responses, and 26 photos of discarded PPE sent in from other individuals compiled into a visual narrative that highlights the “waste” of this tumultuous time. Profits from sales will go to Greenpeace in recognition of the environmental impact that our discarded PPE will have on our world. My piece responded to the cultural privileges that underpin our social inequities. The pandemic did not create these inequities yet magnified them. Minority populations and lower-class individuals were classified as essential workers and carried a disproportionate weight in maintaining class structures.
